Christianity and Judaism share deep historical and spiritual roots, as Christianity emerged from Judaism. Both religions believe in one God, the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible), and the moral teachings of the Ten Commandments. However, they have key differences in their beliefs about Jesus, salvation, and the role of Scripture.

1. Who is God? (The Nature of God)

Both Christianity and Judaism believe in one God, the Creator of the universe.

Deuteronomy 6:4 says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

Christians believe in the Trinity—one God in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19commands believers to “baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

Judaism rejects the Trinity, viewing God as one and indivisible. God is seen as personal but does not have a “Son” in the Christian sense.

2. Who is Jesus?

Christianity teaches that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and the Savior of the world. He fulfilled Old Testament prophecies, died for our sins, and rose from the dead.

John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Judaism believes that Jesus was not the Messiah, nor the Son of God. Many Jewish people see Him as a teacher or prophet but reject His divinity and resurrection. They believe the Messiah has yet to come.

3. What is Salvation?

Christianity teaches that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God—not by works.”

Jesus’ death on the cross paid for sins, and those who trust in Him receive eternal life.

Judaism teaches that salvation comes through obedience to God’s law (the Torah) and living a righteous life. There is no single belief about the afterlife—some believe in Heaven and Hell, while others focus on ethical living rather than eternal salvation.

4. What is the Holy Book?

Christians believe in the Bible, which consists of the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures) and the New Testament, which tells of Jesus’ life, teachings, and the early church. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching.”

Judaism follows the Tanakh, which is the Hebrew Bible (what Christians call the Old Testament). They also follow the Talmud, a collection of rabbinic teachings that explain Jewish law and tradition. They do not accept the New Testamentas Scripture.

5. What Happens After Death?

Christianity teaches that those who believe in Jesus will have eternal life in Heaven, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God (Hell).

John 3:16 says, “Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Judaism has varied beliefs about the afterlife. Some Jews believe in Olam HaBa (the World to Come), resurrection, or reincarnation, while others focus on living righteously in this life rather than what happens after death.

Final Thought

Christianity and Judaism share the same foundation but differ greatly on Jesus and salvation. The biggest question is: Is Jesus the Messiah? Christianity teaches that Jesus fulfilled all prophecies and is the only way to God. What do you believe about Him? 🙌✨
